Sippo ValleyTrail Bridge #4

Point Design Group was the design engineer for the Sippo Valley Trail Bridge #4.  This new bridge spans the West Sippo Creek Tributary in the City of Massillon in Stark County.

Wooden pedestrian bridge over rocky terrain along Sippo Valley Trail.

The 90 foot long, 10 foot wide, bridge replaced a timber railroad bridge in poor condition. The new single span structure takes the place of a rotted 6 span timber beam bridge, greatly improving the flow characteristics. Concrete abutments founded on steel piling were designed to support the prefabricated bridge truss. Point Design Group also performed the field survey and coordinated with a geotechnical engineer for the project.

Ohio & Erie Canal Aqueduct

The 14-foot wide bridge reconnects the Ohio & Erie Canal towpath at a location where an aqueduct once transported canal boats over the river. The reemergence of the towpath as a recreational corridor was the driving force in providing this safe passage along this section of the towpath.
